Well, here I am; I find myself in the midst of the Social Networking wave. I have a Facebook page, I twitter, I'm Linkedin and at one time I even actively kept up a MySpace page (although only really to keep tabs on my then teenage daughter, she's mostly grown up now and not a teenager) ~ its still there, but I'm not. But when it has come to blogging/online journaling, I find myself on the outside looking in, but really wanting to be part of this world. I feel like I have at least a little bit to say about just about everything, so I decided to jump in feet first into the world of blogging/online journaling.
So I made the decision to join in, but then there was the matter of a name. Should I use my own name or should I have a catchy/cutesy name? After much thought and consideration of all options, I decided on "Pink at Heart" for the title of my little space of social networking.
Why you may ask? Well first there is the obvious Pink is my absolute favorite color! A little less obvious to those who don't know me well is the fact that Pink is more than a color to me.
You see, I stem from a family of 6 siblings, 1 boy and 5 girls. Three of my sisters are all breast cancer "victims" (for lack of a better word). My oldest sister was diagnosed in 1981, I was just 14 years old at the time, so the words "breast cancer" seem to have been part of my life for most of my life. Since that time, another sister has battled both ovarian and breast cancer, and third sister also face breast cancer. In my opinion, this is a blessing, I grew up with an awareness of a disease that even today some people do not have.
I consider myself an advocate for the cause, and what you may find on this blog that I will often post about what I read, hear, or just plain old feel about breast cancer, breast cancer awareness, etc.; this is a subject near and dear to my heart. But since I don't want this blog to be just about one thing/cause, you will also find that I will post about what I read, hear or just plain feel about other things as well. I like to think of myself as a multi-faceted person, so I hope to make this blog multi-faceted as well.
Once again, welcome to my blog. I imagine this may be a slow start, but I hope you stick around for the ride as I get the hang of this thing.
