"As you wish"; The best movie I ever saw...
One of my New Year's resolutions is to make a better effort to blog more often, and for my blog writing to improve over all. To help me out in this resolution, I have become a member of Bloggy Moms an online community. I also joined their Writer's Workshop group to help me start writing more often.
Their latest topic prompt is "The Best Movie I Ever Saw". So here goes my first challenged blog.
To be honest, I am not really sure what the "best" movie I ever saw is/was; I have seen many movies that I considered great for many different reasons. Each one had an appeal of its own, but I am not sure that any one of them stands alone as the BEST.
While no movie really stands out as "best" in my mind, one definitely stands out as my favorite. The Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie, so I guess in its own way to me it is the "best". Anyone reading this who has never seen it, stop reading right now, go to your nearest video rental and rent this movie, then come back and finish this post.
The tag line for this movie reads: "A classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing (as read by a kindly grandfather)." It was released in 1987. Its star studded cast includes Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Peter Falk, Andre the Giant, Robin Wright and many more. It is funny, touching and exciting all wrapped up in one.
The first time I saw this movie was in winter of 1988, I was in the USN stationed in Norfolk, VA attending "A" School. After a date gone bad, a friend took me to the movies to cheer me up. I guess the selection of this particular movie was on the money, because it was the perfect pick me up. I thought for sure that its appeal would be limited to the circumstances that brought me to the movie theater that day, but here we are more than a decade later and the appeal continues.
I own it on DVD so I can watch whenever I like. If I happen to catch it on television, it is a must stop and watch moment. I just never tire of the quirkiness of this movie. While I can't quite recite the movie word for word (YET), there are definitely some memorable quotes from the movie that I can recount on a whim.
